Have you ever read a book and wondered what it would be like to live in the world the book describes? I know I have! I especially loved to do just that as a kid. Well, great news! You and your kids and grandchildren can do exactly that at The Rabbit hOle, a new museum in North Kansas City. It’s awesome! Follow along…I’ll take you with me for a tour. Just be forewarned - even the entry to the museum and the elevators are part of the adventure!

The Rabbit hOle is a new museum about immersing yourself in children’s literature by actually placing you in a scene of the book. And not just one children’s book…lots of different children’s books! Books include Curious George, Goodnight Moon, Harry the Dirty Dog, Strega Nona, Caps for Sale, No, David, The Stinky Cheese Man, Frog and Toad are Friends, Madeline, Make Way for Ducklings, and many more. There are so many books, both new and classics, represented that it’s sometimes a challenge to spot them all.

While the exhibits and scenes vary greatly, one thing is constant. There is always multiple copies of the book represented for your child to read or for you to sit down with them and read together. I simply can’t imagine a more fun and engaging place to read!

The exhibits are meant to be immersive and engage children in doing something in the scene, whether it be sitting on a big chair depicted in the book to turning knobs to walking around and viewing scenes from the book. You can even take a ride on the Last Stop on Market Street up bus!

You will find books and exhibits that represent other cultures and time periods. Children should be able to picture themselves in the books that they read. There are also new adventures to explore, even in the bathroom! I’m not giving that one away, but it is a total hoot. Kids will love it. I know I did!

In addition to two floors of museum space, there is also a large children’s bookstore and a cafe on-site. Special events such as story times and school field trips are available. There are even times for just age 21 and over adults to come and play! How fun is that?!? After all, who doesn’t want to immerse themself in a good book?

I’ve included some photos below, but the best way to see the museum is, obviously, stop in to experience it yourself! More information about the museum can be found at the website below.
